I’m Chantelle, a contemporary painter working in atmospheric abstraction, exploring the emotional language of light, memory, and landscape. My work centres on luminous seascapes that sit between representation and abstraction—where horizons dissolve, light softens, and form becomes secondary to feeling. I work primarily in oils, using a wet-into-wet technique over a luminous ground of white and medium, allowing colour to blend directly on the surface. This process creates a softness and depth where light appears to emerge from within the painting rather than sit on top of it. My palette is deliberately restrained, built from subtle shifts of pinks, violets, blues, and warm ochres to create quiet, immersive atmospheres. Rather than depicting specific places, I’m interested in moments of transition—those in-between states where clarity fades and something more emotional takes over. Themes of stillness, dissolution, and resonance run through my work, inviting the viewer into a contemplative space. I often create my paintings as part of a wider sequence, where each piece contributes to an unfolding visual narrative—guiding the viewer through cycles of emergence, tension, release, and resolution.
